November 4 – Your Yes Vote is Needed

The issue at hand is whether Madison residents will vote to approve a $13.3 bonding issue to permit the Scranton Library to proceed with a long overdue and badly needed expansion. Your vote, and the votes of your friends and neighbors, are badly needed!

There is always misinformation about any big project – the Library expansion is typical. Many will oppose it because they don’t like change. Most of those voting against it will do so because they think it is more costly than it actually is (25 cents a day for the average homeowner –a cost that will NOT go up).

The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has concluded that libraries are important engines of economic development – in addition to the cultural and social riches they bring to people of all ages in a town. Madison’s library is even more critical – it is the anchor of our downtown and will bring people and shoppers to keep our downtown prosperous.

Please vote YES!

Here is the actual wording of the referendum issue you will be asked to vote on:

SHALL THE TOWN OF MADISON APPROPRIATE $13,300,000 FOR COSTS RELATED TO A $13,100,000 GRANT TO THE E. C. SCRANTON MEMORIAL LIBRARY FOR ADDITIONS, RENOVATIONS AND IMPROVEMENTS TO THE LIBRARY BUILDING, AND AUTHORIZE THE ISSUE OF BONDS AND NOTES TO FINANCE THE APPROPRIATION?
